Identify the accepted evidence
Write down which tests are accepted, any total and component-score conditions, validity and the submission method. Check whether online, home-based or other test formats are included. The university website being available in English does not settle any of those questions.
Ask about a waiver with a precise document
If you studied in English, ask whether an official language-of-instruction certificate is acceptable and what it must say. Confirm who should issue it and whether the course duration matters. A personal statement saying you are fluent is not the same evidence as the certificate requested by a programme.
Put this guide into practice
Create a short record for your intended programme. Add the relevant notice or document beside each item; leave unpublished details marked “to confirm”.
- Accepted language certificate, score and validity
- Published waiver conditions and required approval
- Registration window and score-delivery requirement
Plan academic communication
Try a lecture note, a short academic summary and a discussion of your intended subject. These exercises identify a useful preparation goal even if you already meet the minimum score. For a research degree, practise explaining your project and responding to questions rather than memorising an interview script.
Protect the application timeline
Schedule the test or certificate request early enough for delivery, verification and any correction. Keep the programme deadline separate from the scholarship deadline. If a score is pending, ask whether submission later is permitted; do not leave a required field blank based on an assumption.
Requirements depend on the university, programme, intake and your circumstances.
FAQ
Do all Chinese universities accept the same English tests?
No. The programme’s current notice determines accepted tests, formats, scores and possible alternatives.
