About the university
A comprehensive Shanghai university with humanities, sciences and professional study, including an extensive medical education component.
Founded in 1905 as Fudan Public School, the institution adopted the Fudan University name in 1917. Its academic organization developed through the twentieth century across humanities, sciences and professional fields. A major change came in 2000, when Fudan merged with Shanghai Medical University, bringing medical teaching and research into the wider university. The resulting institution developed across the Handan, Fenglin, Jiangwan and Zhangjiang campuses. Its current official profile describes a comprehensive range including philosophy, economics, law, literature, sciences, engineering, medicine, management and arts. International applicants should distinguish the university’s general academic profile from the actual program catalog, teaching language and scholarship rules for their intended intake.
