About the university
A university founded in Guangzhou in 1924, with campuses across three Guangdong cities.
Sun Yat-sen University began as National Guangdong University in 1924, when Sun Yat-sen brought several colleges and universities together in Guangzhou. It was renamed National Sun Yat-sen University in 1926. The university relocated during wartime and returned to Guangzhou after 1945. A major change in 2001 united Sun Yat-sen University with Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, strengthening the connection between its broader academic work and medical education. Its development also includes campuses in Zhuhai, Guangzhou’s Panyu district and Shenzhen. The university’s history records participation in Project 211 and Project 985. Because it operates across several locations in Guangdong, the relevant campus should be checked for each programme.
