About the university
A comprehensive research university in Xi’an, with a lineage beginning at Nanyang College in Shanghai.
Xi’an Jiaotong University traces its origins to Nanyang College, established in Shanghai by Sheng Xuanhuai in 1896. The institution took the Jiaotong University name in 1921 and developed a strong emphasis on science, engineering and management. In 1956 the main part of Jiaotong University moved to Xi’an, and in 1959 it formally became Xi’an Jiaotong University. A further expansion came in 2000, when Xi’an Medical University and Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics merged into XJTU. Based in the capital of Shaanxi, the university now covers engineering, medicine, science, economics, management and humanities. Its official account records participation in Project 211, Project 985 and both rounds of the Double First-Class initiative.
