This is a doctoral subcategory, not a separate general language fund
The published ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO category concerns doctoral students from developing countries. The 2026 notice describes up to 40 selections, with 10 scholarships prioritized for climate-related research, and non-exclusive consideration for women and applicants from least-developed countries.
These figures describe the programme’s selection framework. They do not reserve a personal place for everyone researching climate, and they do not establish an open 2027 quota. The UCAS instructions also describe the relevant option in the scholarship application, within the CAS-ANSO procedure.
Show the link from research question to usable method
Illustrative research framing: a climate-related proposal should identify the process being investigated, the evidence or measurements available, the analytical method and the contribution expected. Simply adding climate change to a generic project title does not show that chain. The example is writing guidance, not a fabricated successful applicant story.
Scientific fit must also be compatible with the chosen supervisor and institution. A proposal requiring equipment or data the candidate cannot plausibly access needs revision before submission. The preference described in the scholarship cannot fix an infeasible project.

Travel support has its own eligibility
The CAS-ANSO notice distinguishes the responsible sponsors for different benefit items and says candidates already in China at application are not eligible for the travel subsidy. Travel support is therefore not a universal cash addition just because the degree is funded.
Compare the candidate’s location, nationality, doctoral eligibility and intended institution before estimating total support. Use the next dated notice for new selection rules. A published preference or potential reimbursement should stay separate from confirmed admission and an actual travel approval.
The doctoral subcategory and its stated priorities
That call provides up to 40 places, with up to 10 giving priority to climate-change research. Women and applicants from least-developed countries receive stated priority. These are selection priorities, not reserved personal entitlements.
A climate title is not a complete research fit
A project should show a realistic scientific question, suitable supervision and relevance to the scheme. A climate-related title alone is insufficient. Check the nationality, doctoral and host-route rules together before investing in a proposal.
FAQ
Does a climate-related proposal guarantee one of the priority places?
No. Priority is part of a competitive selection process. The proposal, applicant eligibility, host fit and current programme rules all matter; a climate label alone establishes none of them.
