The degree and age requirements must both be satisfied
Central CGS guidance pairs undergraduate study with a secondary-school qualification and an age below 25 when applying; master’s study with a bachelor’s qualification and an age below 35; doctoral study with a master’s qualification and an age below 40. Completing the right degree does not remove the age condition.
Beijing’s municipal framework uses different enrolment-based wording. A person aged exactly 35 might satisfy the municipal phrase no older than 35 at enrolment while not satisfying the general CSC phrase under 35 at application. This is an illustration of the wording, not a personal eligibility decision: the dated recipient notice remains necessary.
Central language guidance can be lower than the university requirement
The central guide gives HSK 4 for Chinese-taught master’s and doctoral programmes. Beihang’s 2026 postgraduate notice sets HSK 5 with at least 180 points and specified validity. An applicant with HSK 4 therefore cannot assume every Chinese-taught graduate host accepts direct entry. The host’s stated preparatory-language option also has its own conditions.
For English-taught programmes, the relevant host sets the evidence. Beihang’s cited example lists IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL 90 or Duolingo 105 within two years. These are that host’s 2026 thresholds, not national scores for all CSC applicants or confirmed 2027 requirements.

The central guidance requires strong academic preparation but does not supply a universal GPA guaranteeing funding. A host or another scheme can add numerical criteria. Beijing’s Category A, for example, specifies its own academic-performance framework; it must not be presented as the CSC minimum.
For a transcript reported on a different grading scale, retain the scale and seek the required official explanation. Converting a mark to 3.6 without an accepted method does not establish eligibility. Expected graduates likewise need the permitted interim certificate and must still obtain the final qualification on time.
Previous qualification and age reference date
Check the exact wording and reference date in the call rather than rounding your age or assuming an inclusive limit. Undergraduate applicants need the relevant secondary qualification; master’s applicants need a bachelor’s degree and doctoral applicants a master’s degree or accepted equivalent. An expected-graduation certificate may be accepted only under the host’s instructions, with final evidence required later.
Academic preparation is more than one GPA number
There is no verified universal CSC GPA that guarantees selection across all universities. Hosts assess transcripts, academic preparation and programme fit, and may set a numerical minimum. Use the grading scale printed on your transcript; do not invent a conversion to a different scale. Research programmes may examine proposals, experience, supervisor fit and interviews in addition to grades.
FAQ
Does meeting the minimum GPA or language score guarantee CSC selection?
No. A minimum allows the application to be considered under that requirement. Academic fit, competing applicants, quotas and the awarding body’s review still determine admission and funding.
