UCAS Scholarships: Base Stipend, Assistantship and Housing

UCAS’s 2026 university scholarship distinguishes its base allowance, assistantship support and accommodation.

What you need to know

UCAS’s 2026 basic stipend is part of the stated assistantship-inclusive total, not an amount to add again. The own-scheme full/partial differences, housing location, fee exemption and maximum 36-month degree period affect the real budget.

The basic stipend is already part of the total

UCAS’s own 2026 scholarship gives basic monthly support of CNY 2000 for master’s students and CNY 2500 for doctoral students. With performance-linked institute/supervisor assistantship support, it states totals of at least CNY 3000 and CNY 3500 respectively.

The master’s calculation is not CNY 2000 plus CNY 3000. The second amount is the stated total including the basic payment. A funding explanation should identify what is provided centrally, what is arranged through the institute and the conditions governing those components.

The partial scheme and accommodation can change the result

The partial scholarship covers tuition, insurance and the application-fee exemption. Full support additionally includes the listed living and basic accommodation arrangements. For research institutes outside Beijing, the notice says the host helps arrange accommodation and students pay the expenses requested by that institute.

A student concentrating only on the monthly total could miss that location-specific housing exposure. The budget should therefore name the institute and research location. It should not equate basic accommodation in Beijing with a free private apartment in any city.

Put this guide into practice

Create a short record for your intended programme. Add the relevant notice or document beside each item; leave unpublished details marked “to confirm”.

  • Confirmed base, conditional top-ups and actual payee
  • Housing allocation, contract period and deposit
  • Actual course duration and enrolment category

Full Scholarship vs Partial Scholarship in China

Duration and the fee waiver are specific benefits

The cited degree support lasts no more than 36 months without extension. It exempts the CNY 600 application-processing charge and lists CNY 800 annual insurance funding. These are rules of UCAS’s own 2026 scheme, not all graduate scholarships.

If a research programme extends beyond the confirmed funding, that extra period needs a separate plan. The 31 January 2026 degree deadline has passed. Preparation for a new cycle can use these items as questions to verify, not as a guarantee of unchanged 2027 benefits.

The stipend total already includes the basic amount. Housing outside Beijing and assistantship conditions need the institute-specific arrangement.

UCAS base stipend and assistantship are different components

The full-award base is CNY 2,000 for master’s students and CNY 2,500 for doctoral students. With assistantship support, the stated total is no less than CNY 3,000 and CNY 3,500 respectively under that call.

Partial awards and institute location change the package

Partial funding covers tuition, medical insurance and the application-fee waiver. For institutes outside Beijing, accommodation expenses may need separate arrangements. The published master’s and doctoral funding period is up to 36 months, without extension under this scheme.

FAQ

Should I add the UCAS base stipend to the published assistantship-inclusive total?

No. The cited total includes support from the university and the host, rather than representing another payment to add on top of the base. Ask for your actual award breakdown and disbursement arrangement.
