Chinese Government Scholarship 2027: Stipend, Eligibility, Timeline & How to Apply

Explore CSC funding and eligibility for 2027. Use verified 2026/27 rules and check the new official call.

What you need to know

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS), administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), supports international study in China through several programmes. Full awards generally cover tuition, accommodation or approved housing support, a living stipend and medical insurance; partial awards differ. For 2027 planning, use the published baseline below and check the applicable country or university call. There is no single worldwide deadline, and this guide does not confirm that every 2027 route is open.

Funding at a glance

CNY 2,500 / per month
Master’s / General Scholar
CNY 3,000 / per month
Doctoral / Senior Scholar

Type A and Type B: choose the receiving authority first

The bilateral Type A route normally receives applications through the designated dispatching authority, often an embassy or a national agency. The university Type B route receives applications through a participating Chinese university. Follow the specific call for the programme category, agency number, eligible study level and any separate university application. An agency number alone does not prove that a programme offers Type B funding. Your citizenship, residence and chosen scheme determine which authority can accept your application; reading this English page does not establish a country route.

What you can prepare before the 2027 call

Collect your diploma or expected-graduation certificate, transcripts and available language evidence. Draft a study or research plan for your intended subject; postgraduate applicants can identify academic referees. Check the published CSCA requirements if you plan to apply for a bachelor’s degree. Keep a record of your intended intake, study level and teaching language. Wait for the receiving authority’s instructions before treating a document list as final or obtaining time-limited medical and police certificates too early.

What still needs confirmation for your application

Check the applicable 2027 notice for opening and closing dates, places, eligible programmes, academic and language thresholds, document formats and submission systems. A published general guide is not proof that your chosen route is accepting applications. Do not move a 2026 deadline forward by one year. University admission, nomination and a scholarship award are separate decisions; neither this guide nor Noka can guarantee the outcome.

What full support does and does not pay

The verified CGS package separates tuition, university accommodation or approved housing support, a living allowance and medical insurance. The monthly living rates are CNY 2500 for undergraduate students, CNY 3000 for master’s students/general scholars and CNY 3500 for doctoral students/senior scholars. Tuition is paid or waived through the institution, rather than added to a personal spending balance.

International airfare is not part of Beihang’s cited package. That exclusion explains why an applicant can receive full support and still need money before travelling. A final scholarship notification, rather than an advertisement saying fully funded, is the document from which to build the arrival budget.

Put this guide into practice

Create a short record for your intended programme. Add the relevant notice or document beside each item; leave unpublished details marked “to confirm”.

What CSC funds and who administers it

CGS is a family of government-funded programmes administered by CSC, not one application open to everyone on identical terms. Current guidance refers to around 289 designated universities. That number does not mean every institution funds every subject, nationality or degree. Begin with your intended programme and the route open to your country, then establish whether its award is full or partial.

Check the academic level before choosing a route

The current general age thresholds are under 25 for undergraduate applicants, under 35 for master’s applicants and under 40 for doctoral applicants, alongside the appropriate previous qualification. Exact birthday cutoffs follow the call. Academic and teaching-language requirements are set by the host. A bachelor applicant must also check current CSCA requirements; an English-taught programme is not automatically exempt.

Previous-cycle reference — Beihang 2026, closed

The following example concerns Beihang’s 2026 high-level postgraduate Type B call. Its last published batch closed on 28 February 2026. It illustrates a past process, not a 2027 application window.

A full degree and a visiting scholarship are different commitments. The central CGS guide includes undergraduate, master’s and doctoral study, but also general and senior scholars. A visiting scholarship does not become a degree place simply because the university teaches that subject. The first useful question is therefore not which university has CSC, but whether its advertised category covers the qualification being sought.

Beihang’s 2026 high-level postgraduate notice is a concrete example: it covers master’s and doctoral study through Type B. That particular announcement cannot establish an undergraduate opportunity. Its application batches have already ended; it is evidence of how a university implements the scheme, not an open 2027 invitation.

The three decisions in a real application

Academic acceptance means the university considers the applicant suitable for its programme. Nomination means it has put the candidate forward through the scholarship process. Final scholarship selection is the separate funding outcome. Beihang describes university screening and interviews followed by CSC review; SIGS similarly uses pre-admission within its funding procedure.

Until the last decision arrives, retain separate records for the university application, nomination and funding notification. A positive supervisor message can support preparation without settling any of those decisions. It should not be used to tell a family that the degree and living costs are already paid.

FAQ

Is every programme at a CSC host university funded?

No. A host can limit the award to certain degrees, subjects, languages or applicant groups. Check the specific scholarship call, not just whether the university appears in a participating-institution list.
