Shanghai B leaves both accommodation and living costs
Shanghai A covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses and comprehensive medical insurance. Shanghai B covers tuition and comprehensive insurance. For B, the omitted housing and daily living expenses must be funded separately. It is not equivalent to Beijing B, which includes accommodation in the 2026 framework.
This difference matters even if both offers use the same letter. Compare the actual expense lines in the scholarship notice, not an internet summary calling B a partial scholarship. Do not turn a budgeted accommodation cost into an allowance unless the selected scheme actually provides one.
The city framework is not a single admissions timetable
The Shanghai guide describes applications generally taking place from February to April, with each university setting the actual period and process. The seasonal description is not a final date on which every institution must accept a file. Programme-level language and academic requirements also apply.
The published undergraduate-preparatory category has its own conditions, including pre-admission and the stated age guideline. It cannot be treated as an automatic language year attached to any bachelor’s scholarship. Identify the course and its intake before assuming that a preparatory place is funded.

The guide says universities generally arrange dormitory living during the first year. It also requires annual evaluation of academic work, attendance, conduct and related performance; continuation depends on passing. Those are practical conditions of support, not merely administrative notes after selection.
The framework excludes concurrent receipt of the stated other financial support. Before combining an institutional offer with a city scholarship, resolve the actual restrictions. If the offer is B, calculate a realistic housing and living reserve without borrowing A’s benefits. Keep the new host notice separate from previous-cycle examples.

Shanghai A and B describe benefit packages
The city framework describes A as full and B as partial support. It includes degree-level categories, but a host can exclude particular programmes or teaching-language options. Do not infer that an undergraduate English-taught course qualifies from the city-wide description alone. Find both the municipal policy and the university’s programme-specific notice and compare them.
Host programmes can narrow the city framework
For graduate applicants, ECNU’s official 2026 example separates full Type A benefits from tuition-and-insurance Type B benefits and specifies its own language requirements and application batches. That source demonstrates implementation, not a universal schedule for all Shanghai universities. Applicants should verify the actual 2027 host call, eligibility and award duration before submitting.
FAQ
Does the city’s Type A framework fund every English-taught undergraduate course?
No. The host can restrict participating programmes and languages. Confirm that your exact course appears in the current scholarship instructions before relying on the city-wide category description.
