The university name does not identify the fund
A university can administer CSC, a city scholarship and its own award on the same website. Beihang’s cited postgraduate opportunity is government funding through Type B. UCAS’s own scholarship is a separately named institutional scheme. Beijing’s municipal categories are another source with their own coverage and performance rules.
The decision document should identify which scheme funds the student. Without that name, a headline monthly figure cannot establish whether it is a basic stipend, an assistantship-inclusive total or an upper limit. The institute or university administering payment is not always the original funding body.
Compare UCAS’s own full and partial offers as an example
UCAS 2026 full support includes tuition, an application-fee waiver, basic accommodation, insurance and living support. Its stated total including assistantship is at least CNY 3000 for master’s and CNY 3500 for doctoral students. The partial version covers tuition, insurance and the application-fee waiver, not the complete full package.
Its degree funding is limited to no more than 36 months without extension under that notice. These conditions are specific to UCAS’s own scheme. They must not be transferred to every CSC offer simply because both are listed under scholarships.
Put this guide into practice
Create a short record for your intended programme. Add the relevant notice or document beside each item; leave unpublished details marked “to confirm”.
- Institution choice and any restriction on parallel applications
- Rules on holding another award at the same time
- Annual review, progression and continuing-award conditions
Your next step
Full Scholarship vs Partial Scholarship in ChinaMerit awards and assistantships are not automatic first-year income
An enrolled-student performance award is different from funding confirmed before enrolment. Similarly, assistantship support can have work and academic conditions. The UCAS notice explicitly connects it to performance and institute/supervisor arrangements. A prospective student should therefore ask what part is fixed in the actual offer.
When considering multiple sources, check the exact compatibility rules. Beijing’s framework restricts concurrent scholarships with its stated exception for one-time awards. A university offering several categories does not mean their benefits can all be collected together.
Identify the real awarding body
A university’s scholarship page can combine several funding sources: CSC, municipal or provincial schemes, institution-funded awards and donations. The university name on the page does not mean all funding comes from the same budget. Identify the actual scheme and awarding body before using its eligibility or coverage. A presidential award is not a universal national product with identical terms.
Institutional awards can target different student groups
Some institution-funded awards target new entrants, while others reward enrolled students after academic review. Benefits may be tuition-only, a proportion of tuition, a stipend or a defined one-time award. A merit-renewal opportunity does not guarantee support in later years. Programmes taught in different languages may also have different eligibility, fees and scholarship rules.
FAQ
Can I add a university scholarship to a CSC scholarship?
Only if the relevant administrators explicitly permit the combination. Some awards prohibit concurrent support, while others describe a non-duplicating supplement. The university name alone does not establish permission.
